The park's two developed areas, Red House and Quaker, make this the largest state park in New York. Both areas offer sand beaches, picnic areas, museums, hiking trails, and naturalist walks. Walkers, runners, and bicycle riders can take advantage of the five miles of paved trails around Red House. The Art Roscoe Ski Touring Area has some of the finest groomed cross country skiing and mountain bike trails in the Northeast. Snowmobilers are attracted to Allegany State Park for its 90 miles of groomed snowmobile trails and over 150 winterized cabins. Other activities include bird watching, picnicking, fishing, hunting, snowshoeing, canoeing, and horseback riding.

facilitiesDescription Visitors looking for anything from a weekend retreat to an extended vacation are able to choose from Allegany State Park's 424 campsites, 375 cabins, and three group camps, all of which are accessible to disabled visitors. The seven Fancher Cottages, named for Senator Albert T. Fancher, are fully-equipped, year-round vacation cottages and are also handicapped accessible. Reminiscent of a classic hunting lodge, the Pitt Cottage in the Red House Area offers the same amenities as the Fancher Cottages but is not handicapped-accessible. The park also offers a gift shop, picnic pavilions, and showers.

importantInformation PARK IMPROVEMENTS!! A comprehensive rehabilitation project of the Red House Dam will commence during the summer of 2017. The project will require a partial draw down of Red House Lake, which may occur as early as July 5th , depending on the contractors work schedule. Partial draw down of Red House Lake will impact swimming, boating and other recreational activities on the lake. The bridge and roadway over the dam will also be closed to traffic once the project ramps up. The Quaker Lake swimming area and concession operations will be expanded to accommodate park patrons. We thank you for your patience while these important safety and recreation improvements are being made. Check Allegany State Park Facebook page for more detailed information as the project develops. Attention Campers: Sunday Hunting is now permitted in the Quaker Run Area. New Hunting Permit guidelines are in effect for the 2016/17 hunting season in Allegany State Park. From Labor Day to July 1st Cabin/Campsite renters without reservations must arrive prior to 4:30 p.m. Saturday thru Thursday and 7:30 pm Fridays. Or call the park for the most up to date office hours. Bear Notice: Be advised that you will be camping in bear country. Please do not leave food, garbage, coolers or other containers unattended as these items are an attractant to bears. Please keep fire pits clean by not burning garbage in them. Literature regarding Allegany State Park wildlife policy will be given out upon check-in. Peak Season runs from the end of June to the end of August each year. During Peak Season cabins and cottages are reservable for 7 or 14 day minimums. During peak season, a camping party and their equipment may occupy a site for a maximum of 14 continuous days. After which, the camping party and equipment must leave the site and facility for 2 days before registering again for another site. Group Camps 5 & 12 can only be reserved for 7 days. No longer or shorter reservations will be honored. Access Pass AND Lifetime Liberty Passes are NOT accepted for the Group Camps and any of the Full Service Cottages. These cottages are Pitt and Fancher cottages. Valid reservations allow 1 vehicle free entry at tollbooths. Any additional vehicles must pay the first time through and will be issued car passes upon registration. All Cabins are equipped with 4 cots - Beehunter trail (cabins have 6 cots except #'s 5, 6, 7, 31-34). NO Tents allowed in Cabin Areas. Smoking is NOT permitted in any cabins, cottages or group camp areas. Wood sold to wood heated cabins only. Only 2 pets per site are permitted. Current rabies certificate required. Pets must be on a leash no longer than 6ft at all times. Please contact park for additional information prior to making a reservation.
